To The Tired in the Room

If you know the feeling of waking every day as tired as you were the night prior, this letter is for you. I know how you feel, and I think more people understand than you’d think. This isn’t physical exhaustion I’m referring to. It isn’t that heaviness in your eyes telling you it’s time to power down for the night. This is more subliminal than that. Something that really only gets you above the shoulders. The tired feeling I’m talking about is the deep-rooted conviction that makes you feel like you have a new barrier obstructing every task in your daily life. Doing the dishes is no longer a quick and simple chore, as much as it’s a brick wall you either have to walk away from or summon the strength to climb.

This daily struggle to handle the simplest of actions builds up and eventually makes the things you love doing too much of a hassle. Being deprived of your favorite activities due to nobody's actions but your own only makes it worse. You become more and more tired until you find yourself unable to function until something is done.

This is when you start to wake up. You do it one step at a time until the dishes are clean, the clutter is gone, and you finally feel like you have space to breathe. Until you stop someday to take a rest and you start to feel your energy decline once again.

This is a process everyone goes through at some point or another. For some, there are years between cycles. For others, maybe a week or two if they’re lucky. No matter which side you find yourself on, know that there will be days when you can’t find the motivation to do the basic things required for survival. There will also be days where it feels like you are gaining a charge from the world around you. Where you have everything you come into contact with lifting you up and releasing all of the burdens around you.

If you’re up, savor the moments you get to experience. Notice all of the little details and give all of them the appreciation they deserve. If you’re down, know that everything that falls will eventually get back up again in some way or another.

I wish you all a good rest and hope you come out the other side refreshed and ready to enjoy yourselves.

Aidan.
